The most common big block swap seems to be a Briggs vanguard v- twin. Lots of posts on here with some very good info. Welcome to BGW and good luck with your build.

I agree, the vanguard swap is common. Not sure how well that's going to work with trying to maintain the pedal start. I would look into a vegas carts 460 or some other 420 clone.

The biggest Honda is GX670 (670cc) although not that common. GX620 (620cc) is probably more common. Both twin cylinder engines, both would require a lift kit because of the height of the engine. I have heard that some of these have electronic rev limiters that cannot be bypassed. The Honda GX390 (390cc) is the most common, but not the biggest, and it's a single cylinder.

The Vegas Carts engine is a GX390 "clone"/"imitation" that is 460cc and built pretty heavily. It is also easy to install, compared to the twin cylinder engines. You can use the pedal start feature if you use your stock clutch with a crankshaft adapter. You will also need to cut and tap the crankshaft or the clutch will stick out too far and won't fit between the frame rails. No lift kit required because the engine is small enough to fit.

If you aren't needing a "Honda", go with the 16hp Briggs Vanguard Vtwin. You will need a lift kit with this engine. Again, you can use the pedal start feature if you use your stock clutch with a crankshaft adapter. Again, you will also need to cut and tap the crankshaft or the clutch will stick out too far and won't fit between the frame rails.

You also use the pedal start with the vegascarts kit with the comet 780 clutch and do no cutting or adapting.

This requires purchasing the starter/gen pulley, so yes for an additional $300 vs $50 adapter to use stock clutch. If cost is an issue you have options. If you can afford it, the 780 clutch is way better than a stocker and worth the cash.

The starter generator pulley and bracket are included in the vegascarts kit. With the kit you only to decide how you want to kill the engine, hook up your throttle, and run a bypass fuel line.My only note on kit is the included silencer is loud. If this is an issue and save the $40 by not using this option.Another thought,I would order the engine with the ARC rod installed along with the new camshaft. My project for when it gets too cold to ride.I wish I would have done it to start with.
