Briggs Vanguard EFI project
Yet another hair-brained idea of mine!
After installing the supercharger on my Vanguard, I quickly realized that in order to get any kind of tunability, I would need to have a better fuel management system. So, I am attempting to build an EFI(electronic fuel injection) system for the motor. This will be my 2014/2015 winter project. There are a few systems available, but they are extremely pricey IMO. That led me to do a little research, actually, a lot of research about DIY EFI systems. What you are actually paying for, besides the parts, is the software and lookup tables inside the controller. I'm a controls software engineer... I think I can do that myself. This is the path I decided to take. We'll see what happens. I will use an Arduino 2560 as the controller. It will have a MAP sensor, an RPM sensor, a TPS, and an AFR input. All the fuel requirements will be calculated in the Arduino controller, about 1000 times per second, and a PWM signal will drive the injectors(one for each cylinder). The controller costs about $35, and is open-source, so there is a large community of programmers sharing libraries of functions. The rest of the parts will probably come from fleabay. This is the general layout. |

Re: Briggs Vanguard EFI project
Very simple. So tunable with a laptop? The only other way to do it is to do a mechanical setup like early European cars, but if you know how to do the programs....sweet! How will you deal with elevation changes, just rely on the wideband readings?

Re: Briggs Vanguard EFI project
Got my controller board ordered. $15.00. It's an Arduino clone board.
These are the injectors I will use for testing. |
