Default 25hp Kawasaki Horizontal shaft! Any Good For Swap?

Trying to work a deal on a 25hp Kawasaki horizontal shaft engine with output shaft on the flywheel side as well. It came off a 2010 mower.

Does anyone know anything about this engine type and if it would make a good one for a cart?

I don't want to trade for something that will end up giving me headaches trying to use.

Any info is appreciated!

Kawasaki engines are legendary in lawn mowers, I've owned many of them. The are built well and made to last a long time. The question would be, how do they do when modified? And can you modify them? I've never seen one done. If you were going to keep it stock with the governor, I'd say you can't go wrong. If you were wanting to build it....I'd stay away and go with a Vanguard.

Slo, I think I may end up with the engine. The guy has an 18hp Vanguard too, but I missed out on it. Could have picked it up for $150.

The plan is to install this in the G1 in place of the 8hp I have in there. I didn't plan to mod it any, just put a different muffler and a more open breather on it.

I think it'll have plenty of power in stock form to do the trail riding I want too. Now fitting the engine in the cart, that may be the fun part. LOL

It's a done deal. I pick the engine up in a few days. I'll basically have nothing $$ wise in the engine and it should be great in the old G1.

I'll start a new thread once I tear down the G1 yet again!

I was on my way up to get the engine today, but they were having freezing rain up north this morning and then the alternator went out in the wife's Envoy.

Congrats Dawg! That should be a potent motor.
Sorry to hear about the alternator though.

Should be a nice upgrade over the 8hp briggs. You already have the rear differential swapped out so your good to go.

Yep Marathon......... Should work good. And they alternator, they just give those things away at $160.

Field, when it's said that a build is never done I now know what them mean. There's always something that can be done better or upgraded.

I will get this motor in then I'll have to upgrade the front end to make it better. Thinking double A-arm, either I'll make one from scratch or find a good donor 4 wheeler.

Get a donor front end. I've seen many attempt to start from scratch and the results are almost never good. Not that I doubt your fab skills LOL. If you've never made one from scratch, the first will not be your best. You can find Yamaha Warrior parts all over the place very cheap. I even saw an entire quad recently for $300 without an engine. It's a lot of work, but well worth it.

Yea slo, I'd like to find an entire quad front end, but so far nothing that was complete or not over priced.

Maybe one day soon. For now, I'll probably double up the shocks on the stock front to stiffen it up some.

I've been told the kaw is everything as good as a vanny, just not as much stuff out there for it. However when I had my clone head cut and ported the guy had just wrapped up a couple of lawn racing kaws for the local dealer team. This guy also builds 2000hp offshore engines and everything between. Was told you can run a Kaw to 5K rpm with no mods but not sure what model that was. You can find performance stuff for them if you look in the lawn racing area.

Yes and get a quad front with disk brakes! Thats my plan if I ever get to it.

Ps nice cushman!
