Big Block Conversion
I've got a mid 80's EZGO Marathon, with a Jakes 4 inch lift kit. I have a Honda GX620 Motor, and a Dana Spicer differential rearend, with foreward and reverse, that I would like to install in the Marathon.
Is there anybody out there who makes an engine cradle and rear end mount, like Vegas Carts, for this model golf cart. This is the first time I've done this, so if there are people out there willing to share some of their knowledge on a big block swap, I'd sure appreciate hearingt it. That, and the engine cradle. The rear axle also has hydraulic brakes, so I would appreciate some tips on hydraulic brakes also. Love this site, and reading all the interesting threads. |

Re: Big Block Conversion
I think you'll have to fab one up. It's not a common enough model for someone to mass produce it. Just do some searching on here and you'll see what others have built. Lot's of different ways to go about it. Biggest thing, try to get the motor to sit level, and make the mount adjustable so you can fine tune your belt alignment.

Re: Big Block Conversion
Well, so far, I've got the 4 inch Jakes lift. 22 inch offroad tires on mag wheels. I ordered the vegas carts big block engine cradle assembly, and I have the dana spicer model H-12 FNR rearend.
I removed the complete rear end assembly which included the motor, trans, and rearend. I also ditched the coil over springs. I welded in new tubing, and added leaf springs instead of the coils. For power, I have a Honda 20 horse V twin, with an aftermarket header. I ordered a 2 into 1 collector and disc muffler, from Robertsons torque tubes. RIght now, I'm waiting on an adaptor, to install a tapered shaft EZGO driven clutch, onto the dana rearend. A comet duster clutch on the motor. Will have together soon, but will take a bit of time yet. I think it turned out good so far. Will see soon. |

Re: Big Block Conversion
Looking forward to seeing what you are building.
I think the H-12 FNR is the rear my Pug has in it. Mine is set up for 4x4 but I've also heard they make an add on that gives this rear locking capability. Mine is also a 5 lug setup. |

Re: Big Block Conversion
If there is an add on for the rearend to make the differential lock up, that would be awesome. Anybody out there know of such a piece?
Trial fitted my exhaust in, but have to wait to install driven clutch, and line things up, before making it permanant. Looks awesome, and hope it sounds the same. |

Re: Big Block Conversion
Is that a Robertson torque tube set up with thier disc type muffler? Never mind, just re read. Have you heard that muffler in action yet? Just curious on how loud it is. I'm considering ordering the same set up from robertson's.

Check out Performance Bodies in Cedar Falls Iowa. They carry wildwood master cylinders for brakes. A dirt track parts place, most parts are fair priced.

Re: Big Block Conversion
I fired up the motor, with the exhaust just fit together. Didn't stay together long, as the back pressure blew the pipes apart. LOL. but it did run long enough, that the sound from the disc muffler, reminded me of an older lawn tractor I had, with a Briggs flat twin engine, with stock mufflers. Definitely not Honda quiet, but that's what I'm looking for.
