Default Finally getting started

Well Life has calmed down some and I can finally get started on my v-twin swap, I just ordered the clutch adapter from Geoff at Vegas Carts,
So here is my first question, I want the clutch as close to the motor as possible so how long should I cut the shaft?? or does the adapter come with instructions that will guide me??

When I had my clone set up I used the adapter. It came with detailed instructions. I bought mine from CPP so I don't know if vegas carts has the same instructions.

Jeff, if you cut the crank, you will likely have to re-tap the center hole. I only tapped it about 1". IIRC, I drilled the hole much deeper.

Also, remember the holding center at the end of the crank was buggered up when I got it. It had about .021" total run-out. I cleaned it up to within .003 total run-out". That's as good as this old guy could get it. With it being off center, the hole in the end of the crank has a very, very slight taper to it. Be careful when you re-tap it.

Ok, Next question, Where can I get a plate to block off the oil filter?? or can I make one?? If Making one is fairly easy I would like to go that route as money is still pretty tight at the moment.

You can make one pretty easy. Use a piece of 1/2" thick aluminum. Cut a groove in the plate to connect the two hole in the block. Supply and return.
Use the gasket as a template.

Ok, maybe a stupid question, but why would you want to block off the oil filter?

You can delete it if you are tight for space. My vanny did not have one when I bought it and that's probably a good thing because I don't have to much room in between the motor and differential.
