Big Block 0 98 Club Car - Rear gear question.
If I swap in a CCW engine in a 98 CC and it will be turning opposite of the orig engine what do I need to do in the rear end to get the speed back? (in reverse gear I am guessing) Someone mentioned a gear swap but no information posted - Can I swap the fwd & rev gears or are new ones required?
Thanks |

I've never done it but these guys are sponsors and have a good reputation.

Re: Big Block 0 98 Club Car - Rear gear question.
recently did this to my cart. tom at cartpartsplus/Dixie sales is the guy to talk to. I put 8:1 gears in mine and with the tach and gps on my phone I was running 32 mph at 3500 rpm. not sure if ill ever find out what speed I have at the max rpm of 5500. its an easy swap and very self explanatory if you have any mechanical skills. need a hydraulic press to swap the bearings around. I never ran the cart with the big block and original gears. I just assumed it had to be done. you have to buy new gears and run the transaxle in reverse.

Re: Big Block 0 98 Club Car - Rear gear question.
Thanks for the info. So are both the fwd & rev gears swapped and if so is it still faster in rev than fwd? Just curious.

The original fwd is still faster than the original rev but they are both in proportion to where they should be. The big block has more than enough torque for it.

When you are in forward (rev after the swap) can you then go faster backing up than going forward? |

Re: Big Block 0 98 Club Car - Rear gear question.
if you've got the balls to drive it 45 mph in reverse then yes it is faster in reverse. the gear ratio is higher in the original fwd but youre going to be driving in rev. the gear change is only final axle gear not each individual gear change

Re: Big Block 0 98 Club Car - Rear gear question.
Recently I saw a guy on here make a jackshaft so the output on the engine can be on the drivers side along with the cvt setup, then just gears on the passenger side with a chain. It was pretty slick, didn't look too difficult. Not saying it's easier than the gear swap, just another option. With his setup you can change the gears on the passenger side very easily and tune the drive ratios in a matter of minutes. Pretty slick.
