Default G16 Big Block Build

Ok, figured I would start a new thread here so bear with me as it is going to take some time getting this project done.

I am going to swap out my G16 Yammy engine for a Vanguard 21hp. Used motor but in decent shape. I will try to take pics along the way and hopefully get some good advice from others that have done this. It is a budget build but I am going to try and do the best for my application of the golf cart. I run her pretty good all year round so I want it to last. Not looking for the fastest cart but more function and reliability. But....we always want more.

I already starting getting the parts since I would rather this be a easy swap and I won't have to wait around for anything too major. I think the weather up here is going to turn next week and get warmer so I can take my plow off and tear the cart apart and get ready for trail/mud riding season.

Engine is a 2008 Vanguard 21hp electric start. I ordered a rev kit and K/N filter from CCP and a stock Yammy spring so far. I have Plowmans black torque spring on the driven. I bought a CVTech Powerbloc tunable clutch and hope to reuse my Plowmans belt. I also have Plowmans posi as well so that should really be fun once this swap is finished. First thing once my engine arrives, is to go over it and possible determine if it needs rebuilt or just do a good cleaning. The motor was in a storage unit for awhile and I'm not sure if it runs yet, but confident. It looks pretty clean, no oil seepage or anything leaking or damage from the outside of the motor. I may have to rebuild the carb as well but we will see when it gets her next week.

I am going to sell my Yammy motor once its out of the cart along with a compression test and a video of it running for those interested. It is a strong motor that GPS 32-34mph on 22's with my set-up. It has the best hot set-up from Plowman's including a rebuilt clutch, performance muffler, air cleaner box, re-jetted carb, and the starter/alternator. I also changed the oil and ran Mobil 1 in her as well as changed the spark plug every year. Don really knows his Yamahas and I can say enough about his work and advice.

I don't see too many 21hp motors only 18hp and 23hp. So for me I am not sure how much difference internally the 21hp and 23hp motor would be. Could be just an application or as CPP told me it could come down to a labeling by the manufacture meaning that some 21hp were 23hp or vise verse depending on the labels and use. Don't know though.

Yes, it is. I thought for a minute a single but I researched the model number and build date and it came with 3 different 2-barrel carbs. There were other 21hp models that had single carb set-ups as well.

Ok, couple of things still needed. What would be a good key switch for this motor. I read on here a 6 position switch or 5??? Where could I get one, local auto parts store maybe? I run a winch and lights as well.

I am thinking about adding disc brakes in the rear since I will have everything apart. CCP sells this kit and seems to be pretty new on the market. What if any are your thoughts on this? Anyone install this on their cart? Looks like it is a nice set-up. I like Jakes front disc brake kits but for Yammys I have to install the long trail kit for them to even work.
