Default Motor n diffs

Hey fellas, been a while since I posted, my earlier project Yami G1 fell thru, well anyhow newest one is underway but before I go spending much money I needed some advice bein this is my first experience with a golf cart. I have an 89 EZ-go elec FRAME, and my plans R to put a yamaha big bear 400 motor in it, my biggest question is with my rear differential. Do I use the big bear diff or the golf cart diff? What would be my results with each scenario?

I would not use the diff from the elec cart because you won't have reverse. I've seen guys use the entire drivetrain from the atv and it works out pretty good because it will run and drive like the atv. The Big Bear is shaft driven so it should be somewhat easy to line everything up. You might have to have a longer driveshaft made?

Driveshaft WONT b a problem, as I'm a "pretty good" welder... Only thing I was concerned about with USIN the Bear diff, even as low as it's geared, is the cart weighs ALOT more than the wheeler, plus factoring a (possible) passenger an bed for hauling... I was intending on using a swingarm/ strait axle setup n the rear either way... I'm pretty sure I could make whatever rear diff FIT... But far as gearing, I ain't lookin for 50+ on top end, maybe 30-40, BUT with enough torque ta pull a significant load...

yeap, cutting the atv frame is the hardest thing to do. Mark all wires, sensors, cables, and unhook the battery before any welding. Measure, take pictures of everything before you start and take your time. The biggest thing I worry about is heat, since the motor is air cooled. I run my fan full time, because of that. I wouldn't worry about the weight. Once you drop the batteries, rack, reardif, it don't weigh that much. I used a Honda 350es and can crawl up most anything and still get 50 mph out of it. Are you going to use the Grizzes 4 wheel drive?

Got a plan for cooling the motor too, switch controlled fan, 3x bigger oil cooler mounted out n the open, vents in body so motor can actually get true AIR, biggest thing ATM, Bein I wanna use a swingarm setup like the wheeler, I wanna get that done before actually swapping the motor, jus due to gettin placement right, an n order to do that, I need ta decide on a rear diff n gearing...

I wanted to keep safety first, since my kids would be the primary drivers. So I kept mine with a minimal lift. I also used a 300ex IFS.

Good luck and look through the ATV SWAP section there are tons of builds in there.

ATV dif is likely a lot taller geared than a 12:1 that's cart-common, I'd think.

Atv's are around 6:1 rear diffs

electric cart 16:1
gas cart 8:1

don't quote me on that but it's close

atv's have all these gears to run thru:

Gas cart have a variable speed clutch that changes the ratio between the motor and rear diff. Electric is controlled through controller and you foot on the pedal.
