Default Remove Gov on Marathon

I have a E-Z-Go Marathon that I put a 377 Ski Doo snowmobile engine it. I had to cut the gov shaft off the top of the Diff so the carb would fit. I am not getting the speed I expected from the cart.
I thought the lack of power was from the smaller exhaust I made up, but after reading some posts here I wonder if the Diff gov is causing the problem

Do I have to turn the gov shaft in one direction & lock it down.

the Governor will have no affect on your setup, the Governor controlled the throttle linkage! controlling the rpms. the diff its self has no control on rpms, i would hook up a tach and see what rpms your turning on the engine.

I was thinking the diff gov controled the speed of the cart going downhill. I will go back to looking at the exhaust system on the engine. I got a tach but haven't hooked it up yet. I have the stock exhaust & plan to rig it up & see if I get more power.

If I put the cart in neutral or lift the back wheels up both clutched engage completely. If riding on the cart the clutched don't move much

it is starting to sound like a rpm problem,i think your moving in the right direction with the exhaust.

I put the stock muffler on the engine & took it for a test ride. Lots of snow in the yard. Plenty of power now. On the blacktop had a hard time keeping it straight. I now have to cut & weld the exhaust system to get the muffler at the back of the cart.
