Default break in

Any thoughts or opinions on break in on the vanguard engines? How about synthetic oil? Thanks!

Don't use synthetic oil during the break-in period. It's great to use it after that, though!

I'd run it under the governor (3000 RPM max) for about 6 total hours, and at least one of those being all at once. So 1 continuous hour, and some time here and there to add up to 6. Then I'd immediately switch it over to synthetic oil and turn the governor to where you want it.

Man,6 hours seems like forever, should i hear a little bit of rocker arm?valve chatter at idle? I was running it around today and when the idle drops low,you can hear some valve noise,I have a long background with aircooled vw engines and that would be normal with them, but this is my first time with something like this.

I took it easy with 18 hp between 5-10 hours then drained out the valvoline
motor oil and put in Mobil 1 full synthetic and a new filter.

Most engine manufacturers say to vary engine speed a lot during first few hours.

Don't hold it at 3000 for long. Yep, then change over.

Synthetic is made in a lab out of manmade chemicals. Dino comes out of the ground and is refined.

Synthetic stays thinner when cold and thicker when hot, supposedly. It is supposed to adhere to the engine parts to provide better protection on "dry starts." It's all around a better oil, IMO.

Is it ok to switch over to synthetic at any time like say on an engine with 150 hours?
