Rapid Response clutch problem
I have a 2004 Ezgo workhorse with a 20hp Performance V-twin and the belt on the drive clutch always spins the driven clutch, I have to shut the cart off to shift. If I go with a belt thats not as wide wont it go to far down in the driven clutch. how can i fix this issue.

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
It says the clutch takes a 1 3/16" belt and the belt that is on it is not even that wide, its 1 1/8"

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
You need approx. 1 1/2 - 2" of deflection or "slack" in the belt when you push down on it between the clutches,if you don't have enough slot adjustment on your engine mount plate to get this much slack then you need to step up to a longer belt,I had to go with a longer belt on my workhorse BB because the oil filter hit the shift cable bracket and kept me from getting enough slack in the belt that came with my kit.The correct belt width for your clutch is 1 3/16" but they will wear down with use.

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
I don't remember exactly but if you will call Tom @ Cart Parts Plus and tell him what size (or number) belt you have he can tell you what the next size up is,he'll be more than glad to help you get the problem resolved

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
I'm almost 100% positive I told them all the specs when I ordered this belt. But when I ordered this belt I had the comet clutch.

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
Also make sure your idle is slow, you may have to find out how to richen the mixture to get it to idle slower.

With the low idle and the loose belt, doesn't the driven spin anyway when the diff is in neutral?

Re: Rapid Response clutch problem
They do, you have to shift kinda quickly but not so fast that you force it. If its in neutral you are hosed, unless your idle can go down to say 600 like my clone can. It idles with the compression release going off. Since I have pedal start it does not matter much, but on the trail I often keep it running if I shift.
I have a comet94c and have a new belt on it, it still drags after some hours on the belt. not really happy with that, with a worn belt its almost free but shifts poorly then. Most say you need a clutch with a roller bearing in the center, or an adjustable clutch you can shim out until it stops dragging. |
