Slight power Loss
Went camping this weekend and took my partner in crime with me ( 5 year old Granddaughter) We put somewhere around 35 miles on the G2 everything ran flawless except that after riding for awhile and climbing some pretty long hills it seems to lose some power?? Motor sounds and acts like normal but some of the grunt is gone, after taking a break at camp for awhile it would run like normal for the first few miles and then slowly lose it again.
What would be the common areas to look at?? I was thinking possibly the belt. the clutches seem to be working fine and the motor sounds fine. It doesn't lose much power and still goes everywhere we point it, but there is a loss |

Re: Slight power Loss
Have you removed the governor? Still have a stock rod? Kinda sounds like mine before the rod seized to the crank.

Re: Slight power Loss
Look at the belt for wear, look for rubber dust or heat marks on the clutch sheaves.
If it's not a slipping belt, it could be engine related. Sometimes in hot weather without good ventilation, air cooled engines can overheat and cause damage, so be careful. Head gasket? Cracked head? Both can cause loss in compression when hot. Might want to check your compression when cold then check it when hot, even if it's just to rule out engine trouble. |

Re: Slight power Loss
I don't think it was hot enough to hurt the engine, but I will check it over when I go back up there. It was about 85 deg out so it wasn't to terribly hot. I am going to look around for ideas to get more airflow through the engine bay, Any ideas??

Re: Slight power Loss
Hey Jeff, can you better describe what you perceive as "loss of power"?
Is it the inability to pull a hill, or slower acceleration, or...... |

Re: Slight power Loss
It seams to accelerate a little slower, and pull hills slower, Not much but it is noticeable.

Re: Slight power Loss
I am also running at 8000 to 9000 feet above sea level, maybe I need to enlarge the main jet slightly,

Re: Slight power Loss
What did you set the valve lash to? Did you re-check it after the first heat cycle?
Also, how is the air coming into the motor? |
