Garden tractor engine
Hey guys I came across a sears garden tractor with a 18hp engine for $225 would that work well to get and rebuild to my standards I'm looking for ? Or should I wait and keep looking for a vanguard engine ?

Most all garden tractor motors are vertical shaft. You want a horizontal shaft motor.

What engine is in the lawn tractor? It may be a Vanguard!

Another thing to look at is the carb design for these engines is set up for steady rpm. Some have trouble responding to rapid acceleration.

I did find that surplus center has these 90 degree gearboxs and was wondering if it would work... 1 inch input 1 inch output good for up to 20 horse...

1"X 1 3/8" shaft look close!!! Opps my bad 1-3/8" is shaft length guess I fired to soon sorry!!!
