Good. That should always be the first upgrade when removing the governor.

If you were to mill the heads 60 thou and install the cheetah cam will the stock starter have a hard time turning it over?

Never thought of that, might have to add a high torque starter to the list.

Don. I know you installed the 23hp cam at the same time you did the 2bbl, but if we were to do the 2bbl swap alone with no other mods what kind of gains can we expect?

Cheetah cam has no compression release. Some starters have no problem with it, some do. It's hit and miss.

I installed the 2-barrel way before the 23 cam. Going to a 2-barrel carb is the single best performance upgrade you can make. The 23 cam is not worth the money IMO. Just advance the stock 16 cam one tooth. The performance cam is a different story.

Jeff the two barrel is where it's at. The other things you want to do in the mean time add up don't get me wrong, but your not gonna "feel" much without the added delivery of the two barrel. Watching your posts, I don't think you will be satisfied until you bite he bullet and find a set up. You won't have a ton of money invested in it, and whatever that amount is, you will be glad you spent it.

Vanguards must need a larger cam in a big way(?), there is no way I would want to advance my stock clone cam and kill rpm as it peaks at only 4K with assorted mods and 1.3 rockers, ported/cut head, etc. It needs more cam to fully realize the head but I haven't tossed a rod&cam into it yet as they can cost as much as the motor and you still usually need valvetrain upgrades and should use a better flywheel (more $$$, its a total rebuild, still need a larger carb on it, and my cart is working pretty nicely at the moment).

At least you can use better stock parts on a vanny for many upgrades, that is a very nice advantage. Clone parts are cheap but you have to buy a lot of them to get into a larger cam and really make the difference. A good cam will turn these lawn engines into a whole different animal, you will think there is a different engine under your seat. If you are going there you should be happy to install the other things you need to work with the larger cam you will eventually get in there, they wont fully shine until the cam is in, but it will be worth it!

Someone found a good deal on a hi-po vanny starter here someplace, could have been Hookm that bought one not sure.

Yes I'm the clone guy who likes his clone, but I always listen because my next cart might need to be bigger and badder. My cart is one of the slowest toys I've had, still one of the most fun/most used ones. Thanks everyone for being so helpful.

I have set my budget at $150, not going to spend any more on the cart until I see how things play out in the next little while ( 12 to 24 months), Maybe I will forget all the other little things and see if I can get into a 2 barrel swap for around that much.
