Default a few questions on minor upgrades

Hey all, Well I have decided to wait a couple of years before I upgrade my cam and go with a 2 barrel, So for now I just want to make the 16hp run as well as possible without spending much money.
So I am thinking of installing the thinner performance headgaskets that CPP sells, Installing one of the sealed air filter assemblies I rescued at work and doing a little porting on the heads. After doing this will my stock exhaust manifold flow good enough, or should I build something like the CPP kit??, It runs great right now, but I want to squeeze all I can out of it until I can do the build I want to do in the future. ANY AND ALL info and opinions are welcome, even if they are to just tell me I am wasting my time and money.

Seems like most all those things would help, though a ported head is not going to help much until you use a cam or otherwise increase rpm/air flow. My clone seems to run great with ported head and stock cam so I think it helped, but think it would help more with a cam. It still only peaks at about 4K for power, but its higher than the stock clone. It does have 4 degree timing key and 1.3 ratio rockers, the other mods I don't think would affect powerband. Trying to get a larger carb on it but that is about the last thing I can do to it before a cam and rod.

I was thinking that If I am going to have the heads off to do the gaskets I might as well do some work on them at the same time, heck it's free if I do it myself Then they will be done when I upgrade further, I was going to get the 23hp cam from CPP but after talking to Don I decided it wasn't worth the $60 and will be getting a cheetah cam in the future.

Jeff, The Cheetah cam is a wise choice.
I ran a set of the copper-coated steel head gaskets from CPP. I will never buy them again. It's not that they don't work, it's just that I have the heads off of my motor so often that I would need to replace them each time. They are a 1-time use. I tried permatex copper gasket spray with bad results. There really isn't a $44 performance gain from using them. Mill the heads if you want more compression.

Thanks Don, I guess I will start looking around for a shop to mill the heads, I want to do all the low cost stuff this winter, (which is coming fast), But I also want to do things that will benefit me when I can get the cam and carb I want in the future.
