Default EZGO 18HP jerky/slippage?

Hey guy's I just bought a 2001 Ezgo Gasser with a Vanny 18hp kit. The problem that I am having is a skipping/jerky feeling on hard acceleration. If you ease into the gas then floor it there is no problem. I have checked the splines of each axle and they are fine. I have checked for anything being loose and have not found anything. The Drive clutch is a Comet 94c and the driven is a stock Ezgo. I also checked the belt and it's loose enough to take on and off. Also when I took the belt off for close inspection I rotated the driven clutch and noticed about 3'' of play going either way clock and counter clock. If somebody has any Idea of what problem I might be having, I sure would appreciate some help. Thank you

Can you post a few pics of your setup?

Sounds lie you have a damaged driven clutch. There should be no slop when rotating the sheves, they should be spring loaded and snap back closed after rotating them. That would make your cart jerkey and slipping. There a lot of re-build parts available, springs, slides, helix, etc for those clutches.

I'm not ready to say that just yet. I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "I rotated the driven clutch and noticed about 3'' of play going either way clock and counter clock"

Thank you for the replies guy's. What I mean to say about the driven clutch is that it has a lot of play when I took the belt off. I climbed underneath the cart and tried turning the clutch and it had about 3'' of free turn in both directions. I will take some pics tomorrow when I get home.

I have checked my secondary clutch with the brake engaged and belt removed. You can turn it about 2.5" on the OD before it starts to do any useable work. I don't think that's your problem.

Are you by chance using a tapered adapter on the primary clutch?

Oh boy....I was hoping that was the problem lol. I am hoping it's not in the diff and need to replace gears. There are signs that this cart was rode hard and put up wet. The tires are also 28'' tall and have some really aggressive tread so that also probably has something to do with it. I will check the diff oil tomorrow and see what it tells me.
