Default Anyone using a 1 1/4 wide belt with a comet 780?

Just wondering if anyone is using a 1 1/4 wide belt with a comet 780. I know it calls for a 1 3/16. I want to know if I use the wider belt if I will have problems sitting still at idle? I'm currently using an Ezgo belt that is 1 1/8. I want something wider. Thanks

I would stick with 1-3/16. It may sit ok at idle but it would change the engagement rpm. Maybe quite a bit. Are you having trouble finding an 1-3/16 the right length or something?

I've heard of a few members on here saying that they use a 1 1/4 wide belt to make up for wear on their secondary clutch. My secondary isn't new but it's not in bad shape either. Just wondering if I would have a problem at idle. I'm probably just going to get a 1 3/16.

I have actually tried that Gary. I get my belts at the local John Deere dealer and they were out of the one I needed so I tried the larger one, same diameter but 1 1/4". I had to back the engine up just a hair, which isn't a problem on mine since I have slots on the cradle.

It makes engagement very snappy, still have neutral but not much. When it was brand new it would grab quite a bit and have a little bit of a lurch at idle. Had to keep my foot on the brake to stop it from inching forward. Once it wore in it was fine. It seemed to have more low end pull too, although I never climbed any mountains with that belt.

Shortly thereafter I spilled oil on it and had to replace it. I don't know if I'll get another though. My setup works so smooth with the 1 3/16" belt.
