Default change primary or secondary?

Just took my cart on its first mountain ride since my big block swap. Did AWESOME but I would like a little more snap off idle and with 4 adults it wouldny rev out down low kinda bogged a little. I changed the sec spring to B2 I think cause it has a bad mid range bog to it but could I change something in the primary for more rpm down low? Just need more steep hill climbing ability.

How old is the spring in the secondary? They will compress with age making the spring "weak". A u-max or other torque spring isn't necessary and will rob you of top speed.

Ok, just remember that a fully loaded golf cart is MUCH heavier than unloaded. Did you try the same hill climb without any passengers? Just curious if the same bog was there or not without so much weight.

Yes it sounds like a secondary adjustment might help. I actually have a machined secondary clutch for more low end and I love it for towing, hauling, and hill climbing. As far as I can tell it doesn't take away any top end speed since I'm using a stock spring with it.

Yea I had a plowmans spring in it and hated it. Stock spring was much better. It has plenty of power when Im by myself but me and a buddy were cruising some trails and I had a problem with the really steep ones. Other than that it runs great. Was wondering if there was any "majic" in the parimary.

I was just wondering if you were experiencing these problems with the 2 bbl swap. What primary do you have? You should consider changing the secondary setting to B-3. Don't forget to preload it!

When you put the clutch together you have to turn it " wind it " roughly a 3rd of a turn to the next ramp shoe. That will put more tension on it.

That will make a huge difference. When you get it all on there and ready to put the outside sheave on, you turn it to the next ramp and press the ramps together. The spring should force the shoes to the ramps. Hold it with something and get the nut on it. When you change the holes to B2/3/etc you are changing the degrees you will turn it by a little, higher is more and will keep rpm higher at part throttle, it will affect WOT rpm but not much.

I don't know of anyone that had a umax in a 4 stroke cart and had problems hitting top speed. Umax is between stock and most huge aftermarket springs, its made by yamaha for yamahas. It will raise rpm until maybe 2/3 of your shift range, it does less at higher speeds. Its great for stock engines, great for trail riding or towing, some don't bother using it with BB engines that have much more torque than stock and don't need it nearly as much, or at all depending on your use.

I love my machined secondary sheave, you can also machine yours. You just cut the inside down until they come closer together and push the belt slightly out of the top of the sheaves. If you are cheap, just get a kevlar HD belt from CPP they are little wider and do much of the same thing, though they can drag on the primary at idle if the fit is tight, but an awesome belt either way. The cut sheave will give a lower initial 'first' gear for towing, hills, takeoff. It does not affect it at speeds above 5mph or so. I have mine disabled at the moment working on an issue with the new primary, so the effect is obvious. I just put a plastic washer in there to keep the belt inside the sheaves, but its not my problem anyway I'll take it out next time.
