Default 23hp in a 16hp?

I'm looking to possibly put a 23hp cam in my 16hp Vanguard. Who has done it and what kind of gains have you seen? Seems like everyone that has installed one did it along with other mods and can't really say if there was much to gain. I'm just wondering how much better it is over stock.

Will that hurt anything? I was reading on here if you went one way with it then you would have better top end? If you went the other way you gain bottom end? Can't remember if that was the stock cam or the 23. Probably just going with a 23 and installing it straight up.

It won't hurt anything to move the cam one tooth either way. It just moves the power band up or down in the rpm range. Advancing 1 tooth moves power down, retarding the cam 1 tooth moves it up. I have the 23 cam installed straight up, and I would say it is equal to the 16 cam advanced 1 tooth.

If you are looking for more power throughout the entire rpm range, go with a performance cam. The stock cams aren't even in the same league.

Thanks Don. I know that you have worked with both cams and that's exactly what I needed to know. Is the performance cam from CPP comparable to a cheetah?

Ask Morgan44 which cam he used in his build. It seems to have really good gains. I don't know how the two compare to each other.

I have the performance cam from CCP in my Vanny and I did notice better performance . I had more power in the usable rpm range as opposed to the stock cam. Good low end and top end too.
