Default What I learned at the ATV/Motocross Park...

Well a year ago before I did the big block on my Yammy, I went to a place called Bear Creek ATV Park. Cool place lots of trails and woods. Testing the golf cart out with the stock engine and Plowmans Hot set-up, I was blown away with how it performed. Only bad thing was I buried the gold cart in a rut about 3 foot deep full of water. The winch can in handy that day. All in all, I wanted to go back but first improved on what I had already done to the cart.

Since my stock motor was tired and re-building was an option, I installed a Vanguard 21hp, Plowman's posi and machined secondary with spring. A few hops ups on the Vanny too, Cam, high rev kit, air cleaner.

Went back to Bear Creek yesterday and rode the crap out of the cart. I figured it I was going to break something it would be here and today since I wanted to put this thing to the test and tested it I did. Here is what I learned:

1. Power, gobs of it!! No stall, no sluggish hesitation, just all out power. I climbs hills with 2 people on this cart with ease and gave my buddies ATV's a run. I was even impressed. I never bogged down nor felt that it would not pull. The torque going up hills with turns and twist were awesome.

2. After running for about 3 hours straight with a few breaks in between, only issue was the motor had a bit of a sputter/pop at low idle when accelerating. Since it was mostly dry and dusty out there, I think I got some dirt/dust in the carb but after a few WOT runs, it still ran great! Engine ran good all day and ambient temp was holding in the low 190's Oil pressure was good as well.

3. I need a roll cage!!! Yes, protection in case of a roll over. It can happen, and I am surprise it didn't yesterday. We have to were helemts which is good and I did hit my head a few times. But the more protection the better for riding all out. Mishaps were the stock roof roof mount and my seat rest, broke right on the frame. It may have been stupid to jump the cart, but it was fun! Time to look for a better set-up with seat-belts or harnesses.

4. You get laughed at when you pull into the park. Sure guy pulls in with a red golf cart and shiny big wheels and they are stop and look. You see them point and laughed, snicker, joke..etc.....but when you leave somehow they all come around and ask questions...you are suddenly cool!! LOL Priceless.

5. Jakes 6" lift does great. Did not break a think. I was considering the double "A" arm with adjustable shocks, but for the abuse I been putting on this cart, the 6" lift has held up well..maybe find an alternative to shocks for a better ride and handling. I think I am going to do wheel spacers first to see how it runs, then look beyond that it it does not work out.

Mind you, I did a lot of WOT on the trails and hills. Many rooster tails in the gravel and dirt. I really went for it on my cart. I had a friend next to me that was "white knuckling it" all day long while riding with me. HIs first time in a gold cart that ran like mine did. He was bragging like a girl when we left.

So for what its worth...oh, yeah, forgot pictures because of riding all day...I know I suck but I'm going back after I get the repairs done. Anyway, The big block with the right set-up will run with the best of the ATV's I found and so much fun. I didn't build my cart to be pretty, I built it to run and do work as much as it can. I can't say how happy I am and impressed with all the mods and to this message board for the tips, tricks and most importantly the help and knowledge.

Nice write up MrNeon. Vanguard is King! I I've never heard of that ATV park. I just googled it and it's probably 40 minutes away from my camp. I might have to take my cart up there next spring. How much do you pay to ride all day?

The cost is $20.00 daily. Seen tents set up yesterday and some grills going as well. Would like to get a bunch of carts together for a day for riding.

Some trials were rough and bumpy but there were quite a few that were fun to open it up. One cool thing with having a rider and blazing through the trails is counterweight in the turns. I learned a lot on how to control my cart with pedal/brake to be able to corner sharp and still maintain speed.

Man I'd love to hit a park like that. Are there "playground" sort of areas there? Places with hills and mud holes and what not? That's a four hour hike for me, but that ain't bad. How much trails would you say there are? I mean like miles or what?

That sounds like a good time! Slonomo would be up for it. I just brought my cart home from camp and closed up yesterday.

I was just there for the Yankee Peddler Festival. Was afraid my cart was too loud for the camp. Bummed I didn't get to cruise the trails. Going in Oct to for a campsite next summer.
