Default Wanna Go Big Block!

I've searched a ton, just too many options out there so want some quick feedback from those that know. Alright, Im not going to spend $1,300 on just the hardware to mount an engine on.

In a nutshell, what do I need? Im sure I can fab up the motor mount somehow by welding/cutting/bolting etc. I need a motor with a horizontal shaft (right?), what size shaft and what else about the shaft needs to be specific? 2002 EZGO TXT has the Robin 295 CC motor right now.

Next, just figure out the clutching and belt to be able to get the power to the driven clutch? I can figure out the throttle, ignition, etc. Also, I guess I need to make sure the motor has some sort alternator/generator? What are some good motors to look for that I could pull out of something or find to rebuild? (Mower, log splitter, generator, etc.?)

Thanks in advance. I want to do this on a budget, but also correctly. Im fairly handy and becoming a decent welder.

As a quick option, what about this?

Apparently you have some more searching and reading to do. There is plenty of info here.

My first question would be... What kind of performance are you looking for?
How are you planning on using the cart?

I just use it for hunting and around the neighborhood. So torque/power for hauling people and deer uphill in the woods is my main thing. Not looking for a ton of speed. I just added the shorter drive belt which made a world of difference and will do for now until I can get a new motor in it. So I just did some reading, seems like the Honda 390 is a pretty easy swap. I can still use my starter/gen and possibly even my current clutches?? Not looking to do a huge 24 HP expensive swap or anything, just some more power for as cheap as I can.

Oh, cart now has 6" lift and 22" tires which should make this whole thing easier....

If you just want more torque, go with a Vegas Carts motor.
If you want this to be your last motor, go with a Briggs Vanguard.

Cool, and thanks! Yeah Im starting to thin if Im going to do the work for the swap I might as well go to a V-twin. What kinda machinery has these V-twins on them I can start looking for? Also saw the HF Predator 420CC for under $400 - those worth a darn?

Cub Cadet 2160 mower is most popular.

For the price of a used Vanguard, and for someone with some basic skills, I don't recommend them.

If you have limited skills, or are just looking for plug and play with limited performance, it is a good choice.

Thanks for all the answers man! Just looked back at that Vegas Carts kit on Amazon and read the details, I can drop the clutch from the purchase and cut/tap the shaft on that motor to use my current clutch. That removes $260 from the overall price. So for $550 I get the cradle, motor, exhaust, etc. Everything I need really - I can work the rest out cheap. Am I reading that right?? Not my first choice but shoot, for $550 I can probably sell my motor and almost break even!
