Default A real live Vanguard vs. VC460 comparo

Ok....before you start hollering at me....listen....

Since the beginning of my clone build thread, I had made some statements about a stock 16hp Vanguard vs. a stock VC440. My statements always remained the same....."In a race I think the result would be closer than you might think" and "There probably won't be much difference in actual real world performance".

Now. I had threatened to do a comparison once before. But back then I ran out of time and money and health. But now is the time.

I have ordered a new stroker crank for my VC440, a new carb (stock), and am now ready to get this done.

So here are my ideas so far:

1. Same cart
2. Same driver
3. Same clutch
4. Same events/chores
5. Captured on video

Events/Chores:
1. 0-25 and 0-35 mph timed
2. 200' race, timed
3. Top speed run
4. Loaded race, timed (using same cargo in bed)
5. Truck pulling event, timed at 50 ft distance (using same truck)

Engines:
1. Vanguard Vtwin 16hp with rev kit, stock cam
2. VC460 clone, stock cam, rod, carb

Will this be extremely scientific? No, but it will be pretty accurate with no cheating involved.

What are your predictions?

What are your thoughts? Ideas?

I doubt you'll get 35mph out of the Vanguard using a single barrel carb.

I really didn't want to push it without a tach.

Stick the 1.3 rockers on the clone otherwise I don't think it will pull any revs.A fair mod considering the vanguard is getting the rev kit.

The clone should have no problem reving without the rockers. It practically comes with a rev kit already. If the clone is getting more lift on the valves then the Vanguard should get the same.

My bone stock twin will do 30 with a rev kit. but I advanced the cam for more low end torque.
