Default Vannys 16

Hello guys I have picked up a vanny 16 not running for 50$

I have torn the whole thing down and found out y the motor don't run
I have a broken cam
And a broken rod an piston

My questions are
The one piston and rod look OK but if replacing one rod and piston do I replace both at the same time
I am thinking of going with billet rods
Cheetah cam
I have found and picked up the 2 barrel intake already so I just need to find the rest of the stuff for the 2 barrel setup
The rev kits
Is it better to just get better springs and the billet push rods then buying the rev kit

Any other thing u guys can think of I am looking for opinions on this build

You will want the billet spring retainers. The stock retainers will fail under the extra pressure.

If you're going with a cheetah cam then I would definitely get the billet push rods. I would also get the better springs rather than shimming the old ones. I think with a cam having that much lift you're gonna want a good solid valve train.

I think the stock connecting rods are ok to 6k intermittently, from what I've read. They do have bearings. More rpm for longer duration is when you need the stronger connecting rods, like in a race car. If you plan to run WOT top speed for long periods of time the stock connecting rods will fail at some point. When you change them to billet units they are much much stronger and will hold up to that rpm. The billet rods are very expensive, however, if you want the biggest baddest highest revving engine....go for it....!

In the case of a clone engine, the billet rod is a must because the stock rods do not have a bearing. The lack of a governor allows the engine to rev past the safe rpm of the stock rod. This will oval out the connecting rod and lead to failure.

I agree. I just had mine apart and even though I didn't pull the rods it looked to have no bearings....
