Default 24hp V twin in 96 EZ GO

Just finished up my engine swap, put a Honda GX670 in a 96 EZ GO , I did not lift it and the engine sits 3/4 of an inch lower than stock, I machined the stock clutch to 1 1/8'' with a key way to match up to the Honda, runs great
My question is I am running the stock tire size , I use the cart to pull my Dragster to and from the pits to the staging lanes and I need the torque to pull it around at some tracks
what gear ratio would you run with stock tires
Stock it came with 12:1
I can order 8:1 or 6:1
Also when I do change out the gears should I remove the governor
Any help would be great
Thanks
Ed

Because your main function of the cart is to "pull" the dragster around, I would stay with the stock gears for the torque. The 8:1 and 6:1 gears are more for increasing speed and then they cut down on torque. The GX670 max RPMs are around 3600. Removing the governor will allow for more rpms, but be careful as anything above 4000 rpms with the stock internals may spell disaster. I run my GX670 no higher than 4k, at which valve float may start to occur. Since you have stock tires, clutch, you should have plenty of torque to do what you need with the governor....plus added benefit of having a safety to keep from blowing up your motor.
That Honda is pretty solid and will last a while.

I agree LVCJ, that Honda 24hp engine is sweet. Was the first bigblock car I built. Just seems not as many "hop up parts" for Honda's compared with Briggs. I do believe you can get valve springs or shims though. I also think the Honda's have a rev limiter in the ignition, but I could be wrong on that. Edkel1...your going to love your big block with standard gears..more then enough torque Post up some pictures of the install/in place please.

Thanks for the fast reply's
The only thing that bothers me is it tops out real quick and was thinking 8:1 would be the answer with the stock size tires, don't think there will be a lack of torque as this Honda really runs great. Most of the other carts I have seen with the Honda in them have been lifted and they run a bigger tire

Also forgot to mention I'm running the stock Honda muffler that way I can talk with others in the cart without having to shout or stop to have a conversation

In my opinion I wouldn't think that flat metal would be strong enough not to bend or warp. I would brace it up if it were me.

That plate is 1/4 '' 304 Stainless and with the motor covering a good portion I did not see a need to add any bracing, I hope Im correct only time will tell
