Vanguard head mods
Thinking of pullin my 16hp briggs and moddin the heads. Should I mill them or run a metal gasket to bump compression? If a gasket which one? I want the highest I can run on 93. Any tips on porting them?

Re: Vanguard head mods
Have them milled. Run stock graphoil gaskets. Porting is an art. You either need someone that knows what they are doing or a lot of time, patience, and very good direction.

Re: Vanguard head mods
Haven't fixd it yet. Will let you know sat. I'm not looking at a complete port job just cleaning it up. Was thinking of roughing up the intake ports and polishing the exhaust and combustion chamber. How much should I get milled off?

Re: Vanguard head mods
Most of the porting work on heads is cleaning up the rough surfaces, and smoothing out the hard angles. When in doubt, take less material. If you can make the surfaces smooth and the transition angles smoother it will flow better. Serious porting should only be done by someone with the abilities to measure the ports and duplicated them, and also must have the knowledge of how thick the walls of the ports are so you don't drill through them.

Re: Vanguard head mods
Will saving the heads be better than running the thin headgaskets? I was told to run the gaskets cause milling the heads can cause clearance problems.

Re: Vanguard head mods
Mill the heads .060" and use Graphoil gaskets.

Re: Vanguard head mods
Could you explain why milling is better than thinner gaskets?
