DuroMax gen 2 16 hp build ?
Hi I already have a vc 460 in my marathon and am happy with it
So I bought a carryall with a blown flathead in it It came with a new duromax 16 hp I want to build the duro for the carryall The parts I am going to order are Timing key (get 4,6, or 8 degree)? Carb isolator with fitting 35 lb valve springs Multi- layer head gasket Chromoly push rods (cut to length or 6.5 pre made ones)? Adjustable tuned carb 1.3 rocker arms(we're to buy at)? I will get these parts from Vegas carts cause of the sale today So my questions are Which timing key Which push rods And we're do I buy the rocker arms Also any other parts I should buy? That you recommend Thank you for your response Keith |

Re: DuroMax gen 2 16 hp build ?
My 420 came with the thin metal gasket, I'd run that if you are not cutting the head. You might get away with a 8 degree and run regular not sure, or a 6 for sure. I run 4 degree and .050 cut head its close it would knock at low rpm with stock clutch I don't have anymore. I'd try to come up with a free flow header exhaust/muffler of some kind. Its nicer to run the button and lock on the other valve, I have them on both with 1.3 rockers, though its a lifan and they are said to have better parts. I still run stock pushrods but plan to get better ones. I also run the spring seat on both springs. Those are take off parts should be able to get them cheap/free I think Vegas gave them to me. You can port the head a little, its nice to smooth off the cutter marks behind the valves at least they are kind of huge. Vegas has the comp springs I'd get those. The torque cam Vegas has would be nice but you need the rod to run that, he says the same valvetrain setup as for stock cam/1.3 rockers will work because the lift is the same its really a cheater cam but great for a mild setup and its cheap (except for the rod lol). I'm waiting for Rayhd to put his in and review it lol. Just my .01.

I think they are coming out with a shaft mounted rockers but he said it would be 3-4 months So we're else would I find the rocker arms Thanks |

Re: DuroMax gen 2 16 hp build ?
Here is a solution.Get the $49 cheater cam along with the arc rod.If that is 25% off that is a REAL deal. Then you can add the shaft rockers when they come out if you need more top end. When I get around to putting the cheater cam and arc rod in mine I may go back to the 1.0 rockers.Once you have the engine apart to remove the governor you GOTTA put the arc rod and cam in.PS if you budget allows there $30 carb is done nicely for a modified clone.

Re: DuroMax gen 2 16 hp build ?
Even then the rockers would cost at least 50% of the cams cost and the cam will run so much better.

The stamped ones are about $30 and the billet ones are about $100.
