Unkown [to me] V-twin
I have a customer that I asked if he had any small engine stuff around his place and he said yeah, it is a Honda I think 8 horsepower. If you want it you can have it. I didn't go to him cause wanting to get a little more than 8HP since my Robbins is like 8.5, I passed but my dad was out that way and they loaded in his truck. I got to the shop this morning and it is a fully dressed Vanguard. I was stuck but I removed the belts that was on the water pump it ran and it turns. What size should it be I saw on a post where you take the top off the carb will help decipher the size I plan on that after I go back. The other poster got his for $25 bucks, well this one was $25 less than that and mine has the pipes and starter stuff.
Now will that motor fit a clone plate like the one V/C sells? What about the S/G bracket since I want to use the is cart on the course only I would like to have it run as close to a golf cart as possible. |

I'm under the impression that you can't use the S/G with a v twin cause it simply won't fit. I don't know that for sure. The only thing I was told to do was look under the carb cover and read the number that is on the venture. Mine has a 175 which apparently means it's a 16 hp. Also Marathon told me to look at the number stamped on top of the head in the corner under the valve cover and that had a number 30. I don't know anything else about them. Apparently mine has aluminum rocker arm which is sought after. I can only state what I was told to do. I'm sure Marathon will chime in.

s/g can be used but its a chore to fab it , its just not worth the effort to do it. i have never heard of anyone making a vanguard golf course friendly , its kinda the opposite of friendly , hence the name of my cart obnoxious. as its loud, mean and tries to kill you every chance it gets. when the amount you press the gas pedal directly affects the odds of death or serious injury you cannot be worried about tearing up the turf or where the heck that ball got to.

Re: Unkown [to me] V-twin
Well this is my spare cart and what happened someone I don't even remember who was gonna help me and put a battery on my Marathon and hooked it up backwards. It blew out all the electricals except the S/G. I don't worry about the others at the club 90% of the time when I go I have the place to myself. There are some that have radios on theirs and play it louder than should be I see no difference in my choice of music. I think the starter on my twin may be ok I just hooked up a battery that was in the floor and jumped it over to the battery that was on the washer[that is what my motor came from a power washer]and it turned the motor a little and then hung in the flywheel. I think that is from low voltage.
well I took off the carb top[broke 3 of the 4 bolts] but it was so gunked up in there I couldn't find the 175 or the other number 30 was it? I did get the model and stuff off the flywheel cover so maybe I can find out what it is after while but now it is nap time for hugger. Jim |

Re: Unkown [to me] V-twin
From what i have been able to see on the interweb, the motor I had given to me is a 16 horse.Model 303447
Type 0048-01 code 90082911 1880[ this was in a block by itself with no notes next to it. Now the float bowl screw well 3 of the 4 broke off while trying to inspect, so what 2 bbl intake do I look for and I saw several different carbs new on E-bay for around a hundred buck witch one of those? What about the S/G bracket that Vegas Carts sell for the clone motor swap will it work for me here? And the bracket for the engine is it the same as the clone Bracket? I'm going in a 92 Marathon. The motor I got is still on the pressure washer platform I thought about using my plasma cutter and cutting off the plate and using it to make a motor plate but that is just first thoughts. Any help on this from somebody that has gone before me I thank you in advance. Oh witch cam should I look for? thanks again. Jim |

Thanks Don, I'll start looking for a carb and an intake and a Cam. The 23hp is I guess a little bigger duration and lift? I 'm new to this little motor stuff but been hot rodding for years. I used to run a Big Block drag car years ago and have turned wrenches most all my life professionally.
