Default Clutch Question

Been asking and posting about how I feel like my clutch shifts out late or engages late as its just "geared" too low from a stop and bounces off the rev limiter until it shifts some. Well, drove it with the seat off and it seems like its shiftodng rough. Like it just sits there for a while and then finally shifts and jumps over all the way. Like its sticking. Stock EZGO clutch. Any way to lube this thing?

Sometimes you have to remove the secondary to service it. It could need more than lube. Sometimes a good thorough cleaning and lube does the trick. Sometimes you find parts that are worn or broken. I'd recommend the old "thorough inspection" route, and take some pics for us.

I'm referring to the drive clutch, not the driven...

Same rules apply for the drive clutch.

Mostly just take it off, check all the parts to make sure they are not broken, loose, worn, etc. Lube should be used very sparingly since the clutch rotates so fast that the lube will fly off all over the place. I usually put a little bit of high temp bearing grease on all moving parts, really just a tiny amount. There's not much friction and heat with these parts so a tiny amount is ok. Cleaning is the key. If you remove it and it's all gummed up with dirt and worn metal dust, then you want to wash it out with warm soapy water and brake cleaner spray. Dry it all off, use some lube. Replace any worn parts, or replace clutch if it is severely worn or broken.

Post pics if you aren't sure what to do.

I'd guess it is something to do with the primary weights and maybe spring. A long spring will do that, or weights or sheave that can't move smoothly. Also check the sheaves and see if the belt has worn into them, that will change the angle the belt sees and make it shift poorly. Clutches do wear out, lots of dirt go through them, lots of years too.

I believe you will find the REAR clutch needs some love. The front clutch handles engagement the rear clutch controls the upshift. Its very common for the driven slides to be so worn the retaining screws dig into the helix, It causes the clutch to shift in jerks and it also sticks.

Very common for people to never touch these CVT and they run for 20 years that way. I went through mine when I got the cart so I knew. Last few years I completely replaced both clutches now.
