2002 club car carryall 272
Hey guys I've been reading a lot of posts about doing a big block swap and had some questions. My cart already has a factory lift. So in general what is involved in a swap, I'm thinking a 23hp Briggs or a Koehler just because I've seen some on a buy/sell site. What does the wiring generally entail? My cart already uses a key switch. I can fab up a engine mount, is there anything specific that I should do to make it easier? Can I use the stock clutches for now, would there be any issue with doing this? Anything else I should be thinking of?
I'm just trying to do as much up front work as I can any help would be awesome. |

Just start reading there's a ton of info here to help you out.
One of the things I learned is depending on what the engine was originally installed in not all vanguards are equipped the same. Some have fuel pumps, some don't, some have charging circuits some don't. Also make sure you don't have a tapered crank shaft. Take your time and plan everything out. The guys on this site are an awesome resource. That 272 will be sweet with a Vanguard. |

Re: 2002 club car carryall 272
Are referring to the current engine having a tapered shaft? Or the one I pick up....eventually? I've been looking at a lot of threads, just thought I'd ask for any heads up in case I missed anything.
One thing I'm really torn over is whether to mount a ccw rotation engine in the normal engine location or flip it and use a jack shaft setup. I don't care for speed, just need more torque for the hills and hauling in my area. I'm trying to do this swap as cheap as I can at the moment, that's why I'm curious about using the stock clutches until I save up for the comet. Anyways, love this forum, thanks for all the help |

Re: 2002 club car carryall 272
If u use the stock clutch to make it work u have to cut the crank on the motor for it to work so when u upgrade to a better clutch it will not work till u change the crank out
If u want more torque u will want to upgrade to a wider belt the stock belt is not designed for power like these motors can put out |

Crap that's what I was worried about. I got a lead on a used 18hp kohler. Guy wants $800 Canadian for it. Already has a muffler. Might pick it up and save for the clutches and do the swap this winter. Or bit the bullet and just buy them haha
