Default G22 Vanguard Swap

Now that I have my replacement rear axle and I am ready to start the Vanguard swap in my G22 limo. I will be using a stock 16hp Vanguard for my swap as I am not trying to win a quarter mile race. I'm just trying to get more umph pulling trailers around the property. The stock engine runs and Plowman's kit did do wonders, but being a limo I just feel there could be more performance.

That said, is there anything specific I need to consider for the swap? For clutch I am considering a Comet 780 from Tom over at CPP. I briefly spoke to Tom today and he informed me that a new cradle is not needed for a G22, does anyone have any pictures of a G22 Vanguard install?

The 780 works great on my 16. You'll like the torque of that engine. I have yet to put my rev kit in, that's how satisfied I am with it.

This is a G16, but they're the same. The 2 engine mounting holes on the drivers side need to be enlarged a little bit, and leveling blocks of some sort need to be put under the Vanguard. The CCP kit was a piece of cake.

Thanks. This picture shows the OEM starter, how is that wired up? Do I add a push button switch for starting? Is the vanguard to much for the starter/generator to turn over?

If your talking about Dave in VA's picture, thats the stock Vangaurd starter, not the Yamaha starter/generator. I think it works best with the correct ignition switch. Tom at CPP sells one. Your going to love the torque buddy

Yes sir. When I mentioned OEM, that was Briggs OEM. I spoke to Tom today to see if they sold their kit less the engine and they don't. He couldn't offer me any wiring diagram as their engines are bought specifically for their wiring harness and he mentioned other engines will vary in wiring diagram.

Slo, how did you do your wiring? Is it just a key switch that needs to be wired up?

Will this ignition switch work in place of the AYP ignition switch I have been reading up on?

Sorry, I'm not gonna be much help with the wiring. The harness and key switch came assembled on the engine. Can't remember how many wires, but the switch is OFF-ON-START. No accessory/lights position.

If I get off my butt, I've got a heavy duty starter that I will be installing...

Mudhog,

All my wiring was pretty easy, although I did do it twice (the 2nd time to make it neater). I'm pretty familiar with wiring so to me this was a 3/10 on the difficulty scale. As long as you take your time, keep it neat, and use good wire and connectors, you'll be good to go!

The wiring diagram I got from 1989marathon, thanks Don! In his diagram you can figure it out, it's pretty self explanatory.

The switch I used was from a John Deere dealer, but you can get it on fleabay and just about anywhere.

I ordered my switch and I will try to reuse the OEM on/off switch hole. My wiring should be the same as you all as this switch has the same letter labelled spades.
