OK friends,
I have had it with the cart. I got my new muffler from Tom and everything was all fun and nice. I went to start and nothing.i mean everything I could think of to start it. So, I pulled the plug to search for spark, which I found. SO, I'm in need of help. It fired up 2 days ago and was fine with now muffler on it, no muffler no header or anything, just to see how loud it was. I heard it crank over once and it started and shut it down very quickly. Could that have screwed the valves? Also, I put the timing advance key in from Tom. ( i made it so the flywheel advanced in the clockwise rotation.) Was this correct? My finall and hopefully only problem was bad gas possibly? I cut it off the vent and all since I started it before the new muffler. But, the gas is gas of April. But I wouldn't think it would run fine last Thursday. Let me know and any help would be greatly aprreciated. Thanks ![]() |

If it ran 2 days ago it should run now. Go back and re-check everything you might have even touched while installing muffler. My guess is you left a wire or fuel hose or something off or loose somewhere.

You said it only cranked over one time, I'd check the battery on top of what Trail Rider said.

It could be a back pressure issue. If the new muffler isn't give back enough back pressure it could cause it not to start also...
And yes running the motor witout anything could mess the valves up in the motor. I wouldn't suggest doing this.... |

The muffler was used and ran on a 23 briggs so thats not the problem. I am guessing the valves. It ries to start and sounds like its going to but dosn't. How do I go bout adjusting them? I am not going to take it out again. I can get to the front and I'll just take the cargo box off to get through the access pannel. I checked all connections. I was wondering, however, if it was trying to start, wouldn't it still need fuel? I cut the fuel off on the tank and the fuel filters are filled up. I didn't check the connections for the fuel solenoid up front with the key switch... ( i used the accessory place on the key switch and connected the wire going to the fuel solenoid with slip connectors, so that might be screwed up. I would think it would be taking the fuel out of the filters....

Well, I am a Dumb ***. I left the idle screw all the way out so the throttle was not open at all. Screwed it in and it fired right up.... Thanks guys...

These engines require ZERO backpressure.
