Vanguard 18 HP timing gear?
Where can I buy a new timing gear for my Vanny 18HP. It is model#356447-3078. I think mine is broken. Going to tear it apart to make sure first, but can't find the part or info for it anywhere online. Also, is it plastic or is that only on the smaller engines? If it is, I definitely want a metal one. Found one on Amazon but not sure if right part (Briggs & Stratton 797521 Timing Gear Replaces 795755). Help please.

Re: Vanguard 18 HP timing gear?
youre talking about the one on the crank? its metal. the cam gear is cast with the cam. not sure how you could break that. i could be wrong but im guessing your problem lies elsewhere. whats it doing? or not doing?

Re: Vanguard 18 HP timing gear?
Yeah finally found the part online and see that it is metal. the engine was running and I was backing up slowly. then a "crack" sound and stopped running. Valves are not moving and it is getting spark. Any ideas? Haven't taken apart yet.

Ditto I doubt it's broken. I have a spare if you do need one

Re: Vanguard 18 HP timing gear?
So it wasn't just the timing gear. It was the main gear, bearings, and much more. Time to just sell this cart and get a new lifted gas L6. Check out the pics.

Re: Vanguard 18 HP timing gear?
WOW! Grenade. Are those parts of the governor I see in there? I'm sorry I doubted you. I'd still rebuild/get a new motor for that cart. If it's the one in your profile it's a nice looking cart and I can't see you being happy with a stock motor after the Briggs cart. Best of luck with everything. Keep us updated.
