Default Briggs vanguard 13hp single

Is the Briggs vanguard 13hp single worth putting in cart? I can't find any aftermarket parts for one. I assume it would require the usual upgrades for higher rpm. Anyone know much about these? Do vanguard vtwin parts fit?

I can get one for next to nothing which is why I'm asking. Electric start, charging system, hours unknown. Off a "boat launcher" I've been told.

Default Re: Briggs vanguard 13hp single

I actually had an 8hp single in my G1 for a few months. I had it hooked up to the original starter/generator since it only had a pull start. I removed the governor and just kept from over revving/winding the engine. It did well and would pull the cart too about 25mph on flat level. Faster downhill. It did suffer on steep hills but all in all was a good engine for as little as I had in it.

I'd say the 13hp single will work well. You'll need too have a taper adapter if you use the stock clutch on this engine. I'd also say that you may be better off running the original starter/generator as well. I'm sure the charging system on the briggs won't be much as far as amp output.

You can run with the governor or without but if you don't have it hooked up you'll have to go a bit easy on it but it will be fine as long as you are and should have good speed.

The singles don't run as smooth as the twins but still aren't bad.

If you can get it for a little bit of nothing, then it's more than worth picking up and putting in the cart.

Let us know if you do and make sure to start a build thread.
