clutch's?
I put a built 23hp Vanguard in a 2007 Gator XUV and the clutch in it was set up for a 23hp 3600rpm Kawasaki EFI and it weighs around 1600 pounds empty withl 2 large riders it's over a ton....
The clutch will only let the engine rev 3600 up a hill......when i get it on flat ground i can get around 4400 out of it....... Any recommendation on a clutch that would bring the rpm's up pulling the hill and on flat ground? One other thing it needs to be around 7 1/2" around so it will fit in the belt/clutch's cover.... |

Re: clutch's?
With my stock G9 clutch I drilled holes in the weights to make it rev a little higher, but it would only go a few hundred higher. More drilling didn't matter. It has weights on links. My 94c clutch will rev harder if the secondary is wound with more preload.

Re: clutch's?
It's probably staying in the "powerband". The cvt systems when under load will keep the rpm where the power is. It's not that the clutch is "tuned" to keep it there, it's that the engine is tuned to make it's power there at 3600 rpm.
Does this engine still have the governor? Stock engine? |

Re: clutch's?
too....can't you slow the shiv so it goes to high gear slower to let the engine rev higher?

Re: clutch's?
He is right, you may be able to pull the secondary and preload the spring more to raise rpm some.
See if you can identify the primary clutch you may be able to change the setup in it to the rpm you want. I could not get more out of the yami G9 clutch, I got the 94c I think they are 7.5 inch or so diameter (typical standard size). They do come with different offsets and shaft sizes. Its not the best clutch but it works. I can't get it to respond real fast to shifts, WOT it works well but if you let off and gas it sometimes it takes a second to figure out backshifting. Could be my setup don't know. Roller clutches are better, and cost more. The 94c can be set to about any shift rpm you want. |

Re: clutch's?
Sho my 94c acts the same way if pit the gas a little it revs high till is starts to shift then it will rev down but if u wot it will pull hard to spin the wheels for a bit on gravel if u are turning and punch it it will break lose and kick side ways

Re: clutch's?
I found a few things, shorter belt will make it do that more. Alternately you can put a spacer between the secondary sheaves to limit belt from being as tight at stop. My guess is the 94c does not want to shift until the sheaves have moved in a little, so tight belt makes this issue worse. Or you if you can slide your motor around try it a little looser. If I tighten up my tension cable on the motor that pulls it away from the trans, it revs more on take off. I had a wider spacer in my secondary and it almost went away. Only bad part is then you lose your real low take off gear or towing gear. I may end up enlarging my engine mount holes so I can slide it back a little closer to the trans. It did not take much to change it.
