Picked up first TXT, Need help with direction
Ive never had a cart and maybe picked a bad one to start. Its a very very rough 2000 TXT missing the engine, clutch, muffler and some of the support parts.
Within a few minutes from each other I had a friend hook me up with a new in box LCT 420cc engine and I scored a complete free cbr 600cc running gear. I had a friend help me price stuff out and I was blown away how expensive the stuff was to put a stock engine back in this thing. I'm not afraid of the work required but I want to end up with something I can enjoy and be able to pull my racecar in a pinch at the track. Can a correctly geared cbr powered cart be of any use at all or will it be just for riding? |

Unless you have the tools, equipment and fab skills I'd not attempt to put the 600cc in the cart. It will be a lot of work even for someone that has all that.
If it were me I'd go with the 420cc. It will still be a lot of work, but not nearly the amount to install the other. The 420 will still have enough power to pull the race car on occasion I'm sure. Looks like the cart is in pretty good shape though. Much better than my first cart.... which I still have and is in the middle of it's third transormation! |

Lawn engine is much easier, Vegas carts has mounts for many. If you go with the bike motor you have to build a whole new cradle and figure out how to hook up the drive. Its a lot of work, you wont tow with it either.
Cheapest way is get a cheap clone 420 and put it in, or use Vegas parts to get it installed. This will pull a car on pavement, you may have to work on the CVT a little to tune it in maybe buy a spring or something. Some make their own mount some buy them. You have to fab up an exhaust usually some muffler shops will do it or you can buy conduit or kart pipe. Next best is a better clone, just a little more quality like the lifan from HD I used. Beyond that is the Vegas clone its around 600 instead of 300, but it comes with lots of good parts, better block, rod, cam, makes more power. Its a performance engine. After that you can go with a v twin the HF or get a vanguard. Some get used vanguards and rebuild them because new is 1200-1500. Twin sounds cooler, lots of torque, you can build them up too. But a clone has about twice the power of stock, more if you do a few things, they will rev good so you can get higher top speed, they will pull HS gears or big tires no problem. Mine has hit 38 mph gps on 22s and still has stock cam in it plus some mods. The twins are larger they are over 600cc. If you want a toy use the bike motor, but its a huge project to put them in everything is custom built. It will be fast. Typically you can buy a clone and mount/parts from Vegas for less than a rebuilt stock engine. Stock engines last forever that is why they cost that much (say 600 minimum for a rebuilt short block). That is why clones got so popular in GC plus they have near twice the power. They will work with the stock clutches, though if you build them up you may need to change clutches to get the most out of it. You can go super cheap and get a powerland they are 169 I think. Then about 30 for the clutch adapter, if you can make your own mount you only need the exhaust and odd parts. |
