Briggs 18hp V Twin Wiring - HELP!
Hey everyone. Well I've had my BB briggs installed in my G9 for some time now (5 years or more) and love the power and everything. Except I've always had an issue with the battery dying after one day of driving. I have a stereo and some LED head lights but even when they are isolated from the system the battery still dies. I've determined that I need to go back to the beginning and make sure my wiring is correct. I've looked over other people's installs and am not sure my wiring is how it is supposed to be. Could everyone / anyone look over my wiring and let me know what i've done right and what i've done wrong.
Here are some pictures. The yellow wire from the switch is the switched 12v power. The red wire from the motor goes to the battery (I'm holding it in my hand in one of the pictures). Motor model is 350447 Type 1201-A1 (4655). I got my switch and motor from Tom/cpp. Maybe they have a newer switch I need to get. My battery is grounded to my motor bolt and to the frame of the golfcart (have 2 grounds). |

Yes the red wire in my hand did go to the battery but I had it disconnected for picture seeing I'm trying to clean up wires. Also I have the stereo connected to a master switch which I always have off. If I want accessories or radio on the switch has to be turned on first. Makes it easy for my kids to remember to only turn off one switch.

I don't want to be hurtful but its pretty much a mess. You don't need all that much wiring with a upgraded power plant. I would start over and make a new simple wire harness keeping the wiring as short and simple as possible. If the engine has an alternator -- it wires up like a simple garden tractor.

I'm willing to do that. I just need someone to tell me how it needs to be wired. Can I get rid of that block that the power wire goes to? |

If you use the parts I sent links to -- this wiring schematic is all you need to start it and stop it. You can add your stereo - radio - tape player to the yellow wire off the key.

Did you get your wiring figured out? The first thing I'd have done is got a volt meter and checked at the battery to see if the charging system was even working.
What kind of battery are you using? I use a car battery in both my cart and my side by side. It works better and will hold a charge longer/better if you have lots of items hooked to it. |

Re: Briggs 18hp V Twin Wiring - HELP!
So I got the golf cart running and I thought the wiring figured out. Cart has been in storage and went to cart and battery was bubbling and the main red wire from battery was smoking hot.
I purchased a solenoid for a briggs lawnmower. Can you tell me if I have my wiring right to that? |
