14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
I found a reasonably priced low hour Briggs & Stratton 14HP Vangurd motor. I'm looking to put in my Yamaha G-2 golf cart. My question is will it be powerful enough to pull the cart around? It seems that most people are using a 18 HP and up. I'm not looking for a race cart just something that has enough power to pull two people easily. Thanks

A 14 hp will move the cart just fine, i would take the governor out and install a rev kit.

Just make sure it has the 1" straight crank snout.

Re: 14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
Thanks for the replies. It has a straight 1" shaft. I'll check on restritiors. I've heard without the restrictions and a 16hp carb it will make 16hp. Thanks again

Re: 14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
You can put a 16hp carb on it, the 18hp carb is bigger

Re: 14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
14 16 are the same the resticters in the ex are not restricter keeps head from warping on early engines no performance gained by removing unless changing cam and carb.like running a motor with out any pipe loud but not fast.

Re: 14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
Is the rev kit something that actually limits the revs? Like a rev limiter or is it something that keeps the valves from floating at high rpms? I don't see me running it at high rpms but would always welcome more power!

Re: 14 HP B&S Vanguard Twin
With the governor removed and the rev kit installed you should be safe till abot 5500 rpms, with the governor on you are limited to about 3600, with my experience, leaving the governor in sucks bad and the engine stops pulling real quick with the governor left in
