Manifold stud removal, Honda gx670
So, I got a good running gx670 and I need to remove the junky old manifold.
The manifold studs are worn out. What is the best method to get the old studs out? I was going to soak the threads in pblaster and heat the head , but are there other secret methods? Any help is appreciated. New to the site. 2002 36v ezgo txt; 2003 gas ezgo txt Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk |

Re: Manifold stud removal, Honda gx670
I had the same thing on my truck....
I used an easy out but it doesn't always work. A trick most have said works is welding a washer to the stud, then welding a nut to the washer so you can get a wrench on it. Also the welding will help heat it up to break it free. Is any of the stud sticking out? |

I've got about 2-1/2" of stud exposed. Some idiot rounded a nut off on the stud before I bought it

I'm old school - don't be in a hurry. PB blaster for sure. Use a hammer - strike the end of the stud. This will break loose some of the rust holding it in place. Spray again with PB and use a good vise grip -- grip as close to the head as possible. Work in 2 directions back and forth. If it doesn't come loose -- use a propane torch and heat the head around the stud. Be careful go slow - don't force it to hard.

Re: Manifold stud removal, Honda gx670
That makes it easier....
Spray pb blaster and let it sit so the stud is straight up, then do it again the next day. Then.... We heated up the area also and with a good vise grips or pipe wrench it broke free. Now when it breaks free, go back n forth with the stud. Don't just keep trying to go one way and always take your time. Or.... If not, weld a nut onto the stud and use a wrench to break it free. |

Thank you! My fear is stripping the threads and having to helicoil them back in.

And one thing of note: this is an aluminum head, so at least rust isnt an issue.

I've never seen a thread strip on aluminum like this, either it comes out or it won't

Re: Manifold stud removal, Honda gx670
I watched a video on YouTube that covers the weld a nut method. I should have thought of that
