Re: vertical shaft engine
yes. get the rear end out of the lawn tractor and use that instead of the golf cart rear end. replace the pulleys with sprokets to change your gear ratio from what a lawn tractor needs to what a golf cart needs. it would take a bit of a lift to fit in under a golf cart. look at a lawn tractor from the side and measure the center line of the rear wheels compared where the motor mounts and do the same with your cart. that would be the approximate lift youll need. the conversions you would do to the drive train to re-gear it are the same as what they do in some racing lawn mowers. you would need wheel spacers to make the width match the front. most mowers are about a 42'' cut or something like that and the deck is always wider than the wheels. most carts are around 4' wide.

I agree, no. I wouldn't spend much time even thinking about this.

Re: vertical shaft engine
Just about anything can be done with effort. Heck, everyone is saying no, but yet we have guys using car engines motorcycle engines etc. Is it practical or worth the time spent???? Only YOU can decide that, for most I think the answer would be look elsewhere. For some it may just be a hill in their life they want to climb?
