Fuel run time
Getting around to the fuel system soon. Just curious what the runtime is for a 5 gallon tank. I may get an aftermarket tank.

Re: Fuel run time
I think with the VC 460 you should get a lot more than 20 mpg.My early 460 with 24 " tires was getting more like 50-60 mpg. I don't have enough time on this later mod to give a number yet but remember to be turning 3000-4000 rpms my general cruising speed the throttle only needs to be pressed a little which results in very good fuel mileage. But I have 5.4 hours on the new set up which a the lower spped of 20 mph would be 106 miles. At the figure of 20 mpg I would have used 5 gallons. I haven't used anywhere near that. 2 1/2 gallons maybe.

Re: Fuel run time
I decided to see what the generator mfgs declare as fuel consumption. Generac rates their 420 cc 7500 watt unit as burning 7.5 gallons of fuel in 12 hours running with a 50 % load. That comes out to .62 gallons per hour. I would guess at 50% throttle with any kind of gearing would result in 30 mph. So if you used .62 gallons to go 30 miles your resulting mpg would be 48.38 which is very close to where I have seen my VC 460's fuel consumption.

Re: Fuel run time
Well that's good news. My 2pg would go the weekend on half a tank. Someone would be riding that thing all day Saturday. I'm thinking of getting an aluminum barrel-shaped gas tank for behind the seat. I have two marathons at the moment and only one gas tank.

Re: Fuel run time
Here ya go. Aluminum fuel tanks -- steel gas tanks and poly gas tanks.

Re: Fuel run time
I know I have done 6+ hour rides with the stock engine and it was less than half a tank, so sure I could go 8 hours a tank easy with the clone since I would not be going much faster anyway just takeoff faster. Trails are too tight to go fast really. Even with my 20hp mower I can go say 6 hours of mowing on 5 gal depending on the grass. On trails my cart gets going way too fast so I can never floor it for very long at all. Hold it on the floor it goes 38mph I have to be on a road. Trails we average 20-25mph so that is maybe 10-25% throttle. It just sips fuel compared to UTVs!
