23hp Vanguard no top speed

Hello. We have a 23hp Vanguard that we are putting in our EZGO TXT 2001. We purchased it from Cart Parts Plus and got the whole kit. We also purchased the rev kit and installed. We installed everything in the cart and we can not get over 24mph. We did bypass governor and hook directly to carb to try and it still didn't help. Any one have any insight on how to get cart more speed? Not worried about torque just want the speed. Thanks in advance

If you are running stock tires and 5000 rpms that is right about where it should be. In the quick links is the speed calculator. I just used 18" tires and 12:1 gear ratio @ 5000 rpms. With most of the big blocks you need either taller tires or high speed gears to make use of all the extra power for top speed.

Are you running a tach to measure RPM of the engine? If so what is the top RPM? Have you talked to Bruce at CPP? Tell us more about the cart.

The cart has a 6" lift with 22" tires. I have left Bruce about 5 messages and I can't get a reply. I will get the RPM measurements to you very soon. Here is a picture of the cart so you can see it also.

The tach is measuring 2800 rpms only. Stock ezgo cart is faster then this one. Any ideas?

Did a little adjusting. Still only goes 24mph and is measuring at 4200rpms.

That is not right, I think I would measure how tall those tires are they look small. My 22s measure 23 tall, they are offroad tires. At 4200 I would be about 28mph gps, 4400 is 31 that is where a stock clone floats the valves, 5200 is 38....iirc. Maybe I can break 40 when I get my new cam in there. That is yamaha with 13:1 stock gears.

Another thing to check is the CVT, is the belt going to the top of the primary on engine (shifting all the way) at high rpm/speed, is belt good, etc.

Checked the CVT it is doing what you asked. Belt is brand new (came with the kit). I did have tires wrong. Tires say 215/50-12

They are 20.5" tall, so it may be right for 4200rpm, but WOT you should be getting more rpm with a rev kit I would think?

Once you get to almost 1/2 throttle it bogs right down...like it's falling on it's face
