Wondering how long a VC 460 kit can last
I'm giving serious consideration to buying a vegas carts 460 kit for my ez go. They seem very popular and are priced well. I realize it's a racing engine, is there any way to estimate how long it could reasonably be expected to last with moderate use and regular oil changes? This will be a campground cruiser. Thanks for any opinions!

There are ton's of guys on here that both like and dislike the 460's for whatever reason that have. LOTS of information. Ask plenty of questions and do LOTS of homework. What's good about our motors is that replacement parts are everywhere and affordable. -Aaron |

Re: Wondering how long a VC 460 kit can last
I don't see why it would be less reliable than a stock 420, unless you run the snot out of it, run high rpm all the time, etc. I have run my 420 with no governor since 2012 and tore it down now to put a cam and rod in it (you must put a rod in if you put a cam in, the VC already has a billet rod). I did a stock 420 before that and it is still running great, and that cart gets daily use in the summer. I don't see much wear on anything in my motor, only the guide plate for the pushrods has some wear but likely the fault of the high ratio rockers I was using. I now bought billet roller rockers for it to avoid that, so I can still run 1.3 ratio rockers. It was over 5K rpm a lot of times but I don't commonly do speed runs daily, hit 4K every time I rode it that is what the cvt is set to shift at. Stock internals in the block, ported and cut head, 1.3 rockers, timing key, header exhaust, big airbox, etc. Had a 32mm pumper CV carb on it before I pulled it out but it didn't make it go faster far as I can tell. It did run nicer with it, should run nicer with the cam in there. I finally got my piston cut down so just need time to put it back together. Now recall the VC460 has a 10 bolt block that is more HD, they have the billet rod also. I think unless you abuse it they would last long time, many years average use. And you can rebuild them easily. While you might hit a faulty part in them like any engine, not many people on here saying they have negative issues with them. But if you go ten miles down the road at 6K rpm with it every day, I don't know how long it would last lol. That is why factory engines have governors.

Re: Wondering how long a VC 460 kit can last
I need some oil and something for assembly lube, hope to get tomorrow. I'm ready to hone it then clean it up and can assemble I think, think I have everything. Other than cutting the pushrods and seeing if the rocker cover fits or can fit, it should be good to go. Had to work to 6:30 tonight, always something.
