VC 460 stuck at top and bottom stroke
Hey guys, been a while since i've been on here. Been super busy since we've moved to our ranch.
In december i picked up a vc460 for my gc, was very happy with the power. I use the gc to drive around the ranch, when my back hurts it helps me get out to my animals and my orchard. lately i've been using it to drive around the property and spray herbicide on all those gd goat heads. anyhow, the gc is only used to ride around the property, never used to race or do anything stupid, yesterday i rode around the property and sprayed for about half an hour, dropped off the trailer and went to go put the gc away. Right then i heard a clank clank clank clank, i immediately shut the engine off and looked in the engine bay, thinking maybe something might have fallen into the pulley or clutch as that is what it sounded like. visual inspection, nothing there. but it wont turn over any more. i can turn the clutch by hand from bottom to top of stroke, but thats where it stops, even if i try to use the pull cord. I called VC last night and spoke with Aaron, he suggested i remove the spark plug and see if that allows me to move it past the stroke since it releases the compression. i did that this morning and its still stuck at top and bottom of the stroke. Any idea what could have gone **-bar? I'm trying to get ahold of my mechanic to take it in... |

I would certainly pull the valve cover off and look at the valve train. It is only one bolt. It will be real obvious if something happened there.

Re: VC 460 stuck at top and bottom stroke
Coil may have come loose, not real common but possible. Then it hits the magnet on flywheel. You don't want that to happen at speed. If that did happen you would feel it stick at the end of stroke the coil will hit the magnet and stick to it. I had it happen long ago. Its under the recoil shroud. Normally if something breaks in the engine it quits, you don't have to shut it off.

Sounds from the input so far that your engine swallowed a valve. I agree with Ray -- pull the valve cover. The valve train in a clone engine is its weak spot. The valve is locked into position with the lash cap in most clone engines. If you remove the lash cap the valve spring cap can slide sideways and come apart. If the valves haven't been adjusted regularly or maybe a bent push rod -- the rocker arm can rotate and the lash cap pops off.
