Best Way to get rid of a 6:1 HS rear end?
I have an EZGO TXT 6:1 HS rear end that I need to get rid of so I can replace it with a 12:1 low speed.
My question is, if I am to sell or trade this, would I be better off and would it be easier to try to sell/trade just the gear set, the whole chunk, the axle assembly, or just break the whole thing loose at the lief springs and sell or trade that way? I have it listed for sale or trade here, just not sure it what configuration it would be best to offer as I need to get rid of it and also end up with a 12:1 rear end to replace it and I am trying to figure the least amount of work/risk to do that. PS: This is not intended as an advertisement, my actual ad is posted in the proper forum here, this post is simply intended as a technical question asking about the easiest way to make the swap from a wrench/nuts/bolts standpoint. |

Re: Best Way to get rid of a 6:1 HS rear end?
Have you checked to see if you can find a stock rear end and what it will cost? What do 12:1 gears cost?
My experience with buying rear ends are with Club Cars, so it maybe different with EZGOs. But gas rear ends arent nearly as common as electric. And some sellers dont want to ship. So that makes it even more difficult to find one. I wound up buying 2, but I had to drive 4 hours round trip to get them and they needed to be rebuilt. If your rear end is in good shape, my $.02 is to install 12:1 gears in it and then try to sell just the 6:1 gears. |

Is anyone interested in the 6:1 rear end?
You may just need to be patient to find someone and then go down the path they are interested in. |

No, surprisingly nobody has expressed interest in swapping a stock 12:1 rear end for a HS 6:1. I am sure eventually someone will be.

Seems the easiest and cheapest solution would be to swap the gears in your axle. It is a simple job, you will just need access to a press. Most local machine shops will handle that part for you cheap.
Most people want 8:1 gears. It takes a strong 25hp (VC460) or bigger to get any low end torque with 6:1 gears |

Re: Best Way to get rid of a 6:1 HS rear end?
6-1 gearing are more suitable for a street based machine. They're also more suitable to use with a V-twin cause the torque curve is lower in the rpm scale. Someone who's building a street cart may be interested. I think you'd be better off buying what gears you need and attempting to sell yours at the proper time. To some they may not be worth much -- on the other hand they may be someone golden buy.

The way I see it is if a guy has the skills and equipment to put a vtwin in a cart, it would be easier for him to swap gears than to deal with boxing, crating or however you would need to protect a rear end for shipping.
