Default Clone engine update

Well its been a few mounths now and i thought i would give u an update on how the engine is going. The engine is a 16hp honda clone.
Pros; $400, power, speed, way more capable off road, keep up with atv's, and idles
Cons; doesnt charge battery, doesnt like to rev up, doesnt like to start in the winter with out starting fluid, small gas tank, back fires alot, oil is hard to change, no in line fuel filter, and loud
If you are looking into geting a clone i would recomend to spend the money on a name brand because their are alot of cons with the clones that make me wish i spent the extra 300 on a name brand. And i wouldnt go less than a 16hp engine. But if you realy off road ur cart and dont have the money for a name brand engine get one.And when i say realy off road i mean hard trail riding not just around the yard usage because if its a yard or camp cart the original engines are worth the reliablity because you never have to worry about weather its going to stall, break down, or even start.

I have the powermax and mine charges the battery. I use mine for snowplowing and never have had an issue with the cold starting. I am using the 7 gal tank on my cc with an electric fuel pump and have had no problems. I do have different exhaust it is a header pipe made at Meineke and a stock 400ex muffler. Not any louder than a stock atv. Idk maybe you got a lemon.

doesnt like to rev? backfires? sounds rich. may be try a high flow air filter.

and if you got electirc start you should also be able to charge a battery. assuming you still have the original gas tank and muffler..... remove the clone's gas tank and use the factory one if youve got it and put in a fuel filter while youre there. I bet you still have the stock exhaust also. have a simple straight pipe made for it at a muffler shop that will mate to the stock muffler to quiet it down.

it sounds like you could be a lot happier with your new motor if you did a little bit of work to your car.

This is all true. I had the muffler shop do an 1 1/2 header pipe and then I put the muffler on and there are no problems. Same jetting did not touch the carb at all. I am using the stock air cleaner that came on the cloney b/c I tried the cc air box and I couldn't keep it running. Hope this helps.

I actually made the flange out of 3/8 flat steel and gave it to them. He used a 1" socket as an extension and then made the pipe out of 1 1/2

As far as the back fireing and the rev up its better now that i properaly fited the air box onto its base but it is still no atv engine these engines are ment to stay at a steady rpm so its as good as i will expect it to be. And with a 2amp alternater it will take like 12hr of running to completly charge the batery. I took it out on a snowmobile trail the other day and could keep up with my friend on a 300 4x4 atv in the snow as long as i keep full throtal most of the time. And as far as speed goes the cart tops out at about 30mph maybe more if i play with the throtal

Where did you find out it is 2 amps? Just curious my manual doesn't say. I hooked a volt meter with mine running. With lights and the fuel pump going it stays at 11.9 volts. With lights off it is 12.4. I am using a deep cycle marine battery. Idk
