Default WTF Alternator Bracket??????? VC460

20170913_091156.jpg

So this is bracket #2. I don't know what is going on. I have only done on-road break-in style driving. Since I had installed this second bracket I have checked it everyday making sure everything was tight and secure. When I checked it this morning another broken bracket I found.
Is anyone else having this issue? I took extra care installing 2nd bracket. Making sure belt was aligned perfectly and thread locker on all bolts. Belt had the proper tension. This is becoming frustrating.
Some advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Got the bracket off and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I will just have to do without my favorite toy until I find a solution

I don't know why this is happening , but these aren't just welds failing you are literally tearing the metal plate apart

To me it looks like a vibration related issue. When you run it look for area's that seem to shake more then normal. I wouldn't be waiting for a new mount -- I would weld the broken one and reinforce the area where the break happens. What kind of rpm are you breaking your engine in at?
The original engine turned what -- 35-3600 rpm? If your going over 4000 rpm -- the S/G is turning faster then it has ever turned in its life. The Starter/Generator could be out of balance.

What is the thing that looks like a line on the other side of the bracket?

That is a crack on the other side.
I have stayed mostly around 4000 rpm. I have only pushed it up to 5000 rpms twice to get a speed reading. The engine will climb to about 4500 rpms as it shifts it drops down to around 4000 rpms and that is how I cruise around. I don't have the brakes to be flying around town wot.
Should I buy a new S/G? I wouldn't know how to check the balance or how to fix it. There has been a lot of engine vibration but I have never noticed it coming specifically from the S/G. The bearings in the S/G seem to be good and tight and the pulley spins freely.

That crack is so straight from here. I lean towards a factor bad weld.Take a square and line it up to the other side and you may see a crack there also.If you can weld, take a grinder and open the crack all the way through and weld it one side at a time.Let it set and cool before grinding the other side if it is cracked.

You might also check to see if the bolts are to long---are the bolts thread holes or clean all the way to the bottom. If not the bolt will bottom out and the bracket will not be tight and it will vib.

I think I would find why this is happening. I fear just beefing the mount might result in damaging the engine block. One person made his own S/G mount and ended up tearing out the front covers bosses in the block due to vibration.

This is what I came up with. Please ignore my rookie welds. Just am taking a break before I go out and finish weld it.
