Default Driven Clutch

So here is the question I have... Is it true that you can swap out the driven spring on a 1997 and newer club cart with an older driven spring(1996 and older)?

Does anyone have any experience with doing this?

Here is what I have: 2000 Club Cart DS, with a Vegas Cart 460 engine kit with the original rear-end and motor mount. But yesterday I picked up a 1991 Club Cart DS rear-end and motor mount(without a driven clutch) because I was told I had to swap it in order for my forward to be forward and my reverse to be reverse.
If I can just switch the spring in the driven clutch, I would rather do that, if possible...

Any input would be appreciated...

So you personally think that it is better to change the rear-end and frame out, instead of messing around with the driven clutch?

IMHO The smart thing to do would be to call Vegascarts for direction on what to do with your build.

Yes you need a spring in the right rotation direction to work properly, according to them you can swap the springs and they are same size/fitment. And you change the preload direction of the clutch.

The other issue is the reverse gear is lower gearing, so you go slower (higher ratio number like 15:1 instead of 13:1 or whatever it exactly is) if you run reverse for forward in the newer trans. However if you can flip your driven and it fits ( I don't know) on the older trans, you are good with this issue.

You still have the issue with the secondary itself not taking a wider belt, replace or get it machined (though if you run a stock 420 clone likely it would work ok with the full stock cvt, but more power raises issues). Its tempting to put a yami or ezgo rear in it complete with clutch would take care of all of it other than a new drive clutch in 1 3/16.
