Default i need help please!

i have a 1983 yamaha 2 stroke cart and i am putting a small four wheeler motor in it and i am not sure of the sprocket to use on the rearend. the four wheeler had 14 teeth in the front and 40 in the rear but the only sprocket i found to side right on the input shaft only has 12 teeth. the motor is not but 110cc. do you think it will pull itself? i want to use the stock rearend with a sprocket does anybody have any suggestions? thanks

try the sprocket you have and see what it does, what do you have to lose.

Lowering the number of teeth (smaller) on the front sprocket will lower your overall gear ratio
Adding to the number of teeth (bigger) on the rear spocket will also lower your gear ratio.

Large gear in front + small rear gear= higher speed
Small front + big rear= low speed, more torque

If you try what you have, you would be running a slightly lower gear ratio than your 4 wheeler.
If the cart tires on the cart are smaller (shorter) than the 4 wheeler, this would lower your gear ratio even more. I hope I didn.t confuse myself!

unless i missed something... if you are running close to a 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 ratio in your sprockets it should be ok because you still have a massive reduction through your rear axle. I think a gas cart axle is usually about 13:1. (experts chime in here) . I think you may actually be on the right track with the overdrive you have with your new rear sprocket.

Edit - same idea as tonyton's post
