Default Yamaha g16 won't shift into high gear

Please help, just installed a Vanguard 23 with the Vegas Carts install kit. Shifts fine into forward and reverse but won't shift into high gear. The cart shifted into high fine with the stock motor. I called Vegas carts and they told me it sounds like the belt is too tight. I thought it was the opposite.I moved the block back and the cart would shutter and jump when you first step on the gas and had no top speed. I have a jakes 7" lift and the motor is moved as far forward as it can go. I,m thinking the motor has to be shimmed up in the rear to make it level and that should make the belt tension a little tighter which hopefully will make it shift into high. Thank you in advance for any advice you guys may have.

There was something like this recently I think it turned out to be only firing on one cylinder which wasn't giving it enough rpm's to operate the drive clutch..
Here it is..http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/big-b...ccelerate.html

Iron monkey thanks for the reply, I'll take a video of the clutches within the next couple days. I'm sure it is but still think the belt is to loose, doesn't seem to be rising all the way to the top of the front pully. The cart is achieving 32-33 mph on 24" tires and pulling hard all the way from the get go, not feeling or hearing the shift. I'm also going to install a tach to see what Rpm it putting out.

Sorry about the bad picture but it looks like the belt isn't rising fully on the front pulley. That's why I'm thinking the belt is to loose. The motor is forward as much as it can go.

I wouldn't think a loose belt would keep it from climbing to the top of the drive clutch, maybe a tight belt would or a belt that's to wide, look at your rear clutch is it opening all the way? did you add a shaft spacer? if so did you remove the snap ring first.. my guess, if your pulling 5500 rpm on 24's I would think you would be around 40+mph on a stock rear end.. there are a couple guys on here with your setup, maybe they will chime in soon..

A loose belt will cause you to lose speed, but that's because its not going all the down on the driven clutch, by the way that is a new belt right? a worn out belt will not climb all the up on a drive clutch..

That is a new belt. I didn't do anything to the rear pulley as of now. With the stock motor and no governor the cart was doing 30-32 on flat land so I assumed nothing needed to be done with the rear. I will take a video asap of the rear pulley running, little difficult to do with the extremely loud exhaust on it for now and my work schedule.

If the vanguard is a stock motor it will only turn 3600rpms and that is the same as the stock cart motor
Size of motor only means how fast u get to that speed not
Rpms is what makes the speed in carts not HP

I went back and read his post, I assumed he had a CPP engine, makes sense to me now, my VC clutch shifts into high around 4000+ rpm's..
