Default G22 build... vanguard swap, lift, paint

Decided to start a build thread for my g22 project. I obtained a non running g22. I was Abel’s to get it running and driving but it smoked like crazy and the compression wasn’t great. Also way to low to the ground for my use. Always bottoming out. So I ordered a jakes 6” spindle lift. After some research on this site I ordered a 23 vanguard kit from cpp and went ahead and got the cam and rev kit. And since I was planning all this work I decided why not go ahead and paint her up something more my style than the faded out red. So here it begins today.

Here is what I’m starting with. A 2006 g22 that actually belong to my wife. After all her siblings were done using it and it was no longer running and sat for a couple years they decided to let me have it ha.

After getting the body removed I scuffed the plastics to help the paint adhere better.

After scuffing the plastics well it was time to lay down a base paint for my paint job. The end result is going to be a kinda old school camo so I found some beige paint leftover in the cabinet at the shop and figured it would make a good base color for my camo.

That’s where I called it quits for tonight. Not bad for a couple hours work. I’m really excited for the new motor to show up. Should be here Wednesday. If anyone has any pointers feel free to send them my way. Any advice is appreciated.

It sounds like you got a handle on things, wiring is one of the things that I would ask about. On my cart I removed every wire that had to do with the ignition and motor system. The new engine comes with its own little wiring harness and key switch all ready to go.
I would also recommend getting a tachometer, CPP also sells those. Highly recommend a tachometer, you spent all that money for a motor you got the high-rev if you got the bells and whistles. This is how you protect that that motor. It has no governor so it can do what it can do hence the tachometer to keep you from blowing it up. Please take my advice on this one thing. I will post a couple of pictures tonight of my gauge setup that I have for my Vanguard I actually run a tachometer, and oil pressure gauge, an oil temp gauge which used to be the water temp that came with my set.
I will take pictures of everything so you know where to plug in to,how to hook up two and so on.

Great decision on the Vanguard, I promise you won't be disappointed!!

Good decision on the cart and the engine. Here's what I did with the gauges. Volts, Oil Press, Cylinder Head Temp. The Equus 8068 tach is in the left side cubby hole.

And I don't know about PCC--hey there Dog--but I wound up running the accelerator cable from the pedal right to the carb--eliminating the cart governor.

Okay Ryan,
Thought I'd post a couple of pics for you, these first couple of pics are of the oil pressure line, and where to tie into.

This picture shows you where to mount the tachometer wire.

As for the oil temperature gauge, which by the way was the water temp gauge. I cut a small hole in my cradle to allow me to get a 5/8 wrench and tighten things down. The best place is the front oil drain plug to mount the sending unit.
